2020.03.15 20:47 tutetibiimperes Nugu Roundup #30 - Dongkiz Sauce - 200315

Hello and welcome to the latest Nugu Roundup!
What is this?: This is a weekly feature designed to highlight the unknown/underappreciated groups and soloists working hard in the Kpop world that often fall under the radar. Please share your own information, favorite performance videos, fanmeet stories, or anything else relevant below!
Last week we did a Special Edition for International Women's Day. It's been a while since we've done a boy group, and because one of my favorite nugu boy groups just had a comeback, this week let's get to know the Dongkiz!
What is Nugu?: While in Korean it literally means 'Who' in the broader Kpop context it refers to groups that are generally unknown amongst the greater public. It doesn't have to mean they're extremely new, though it can, and there are of course varying degrees of 'unknown' which some groups having very strong niche fandoms and others being almost invisible. I take a fairly broad view and will include groups that may be known to some, but who don't have widespread name recognition.
And now, on to the show....
________________________________________________________
Dongkiz
Who are they?: The Dongkiz are a 5 member boy group under Dongyo Entertainment. Their name means 'Kids of the East' with the 'East' implying Asia. Their fandom name is "Dong-ari" which means "Those lovesick with the Dongkiz" but can also translate to "Club". It was the result of a fan vote and narrowly beat the 2nd runner up "Ding Dong".
Company: Dongkiz seems to be the only group under Dongyo Entertainment. The company hasn't updated its SNS accounts in a while and appears to have failed to pay their website hosting bill, so it's hard to find out much about them. They've expressed a desire for Dongkiz to help promote the Hallyu Wave overseas.
Members
Debut: November 20th, 2018 with Nom (MV) Live Stage (Link). Their debut confused some fans as Nom was originally billed as a pre-debut single, but when the company started pumping a full debut in April 2019 they retroactively made Nom the official debut song and started promoting it, with it along with a Nom Remix and Nom Instrumental being the only songs on their debut single album "Dongkiz on the Block". They have said that they intended to evoke the New Kids on the Block with the release.
Most Recent Comback: March 11th, 2020 with Lupin (MV) Live Stage (Link) a very cool song with a funky riff and an innovative half-time/triplet section in the pre-chorus. The song title and MV are inspired by Maurice LeBlanc's gentleman thief character Arsène Lupin who was also the inspiration for the popular anime series Lupin the Third.
Other MVs and Stages
YouTube Channel: Dongyo Entertainment
Random Stuff
Trivia: The group has performed abroad in China, Indonesia, and Turkey. A rarity in the Kpop world, none of the members are from the greater Seoul area. Wondae has had a radio show where he teaches Korean to foreigners. Jaechan accidentally broke a mirror with a microphone stand during the filming of the Fever choreography video, but no one was hurt. The group has developed a reputation for being particularly good to fans and staff at events, including handing out roasted sweet potatoes to reporters before an MBC show and hiring charter buses to bring fans in for a a special children's show and handing out red-bean based confectioneries. They have also been ambassadors and taken part in fundraising for a firefighter charity and the JTS Anti-Poverty Campaign.
________________________________________________________
Soloist of the Week
Kriesha Chu
Who is she?: Kriesha Chu is a Filipino/Chinese American soloist under Urban Works Entertainment. She came to Korea to pursue her love of singing and competed in Kpop Star 6, doing well but not ultimately winning the competition.
Company: Urban Works Entertainment represents a variety of soloists and actors/actresses.
Real Name: Kriesha Ziskind Teo Tiu
Age: 21 (IA)
Debut: May 23rd, 2017 with Trouble (MV) Live Stage (Link) An upbeat dance song, which garnered a fair bit of attention. It was produced by former-Highlight member Junhyung, who was caught up in the molka scandal following the Burning Sun events, and Kim Tae Joo, who has had a successful career producing for Beast, Highlight, and KNK amongst other groups.
Most Recent Release: I Want To See You Again (audio) he first digital single, no MV or promotions I can find, but it's a very pretty ballad.
Other MVs and Performances
YouTube Channel: Chu Cream
Random Stuff
Trivia: She was born in Cebu, Philippines but grew up in San Francisco, CA. She holds dual US/Philippines citizenship. She was originally going to debut as part of a girl group called 'Recipe of a Girl' but the group fell apart before debut and she debuted as a soloist instead. Kriesha Chu hosted Arirang TV's Travel Agency program. She is good friends with Kim Minjoo (currently an IZ*ONE member) who was also rumored to have been considered for the 'Recipe of a Girl' group that fell through. She has been in the web dramas 'Spunk' and 'Living With Ghosts'.
________________________________________________________
In Memorium
Bebop
Who were they?: A female rock band trio under HMI Entertainment.
Releases
Active Between: February 14th 2014 - June 2016
Random Stuff
Reasons for Disbandment: Bassist Jiin left the group in 2015 with aspirations of becoming an actress, leading the group to disband.
Trivia: Leader A-Yeon now has her own YouTube Channel where she uploads drum covers of various songs. She also had a solo debut in 2018 with You & I (MV) and released an OST for the drama "My Name is Gangnam Beauty" with Melody Day's Chahee (MV). Former bassist Jiin was briefly in Girl's Day and released a solo song called Nan (MV) in late 2019, she is good firends with ex-Girl's Day member Jihae.
___________________________________________________
That's it for today, let's get the discussion on!
As always, if you have any suggestions for groups, content, or things you'd like to see, please let me know in the comments below.
Also as always, a big shout-out to u/not-named-in-credits for his amazing work with nugutown.

2019.03.07 16:50 Goldicot Weekly Whirlpool, S2:E9: Scott Walker - The Drift (2006)

Chosen by Akerblogger, who says:
" I first listened to The Drift I didn’t know what to look out for, it seem to neglect all forms of structure; I had entered a surreal and nightmarish universe. It was completely alien to me. There were vast sections where only Walker’s sluggish baritone moaned atop crackling feedback and barely audible scratching. At other times I thought my speakers had stopped working; as silence creeped and lay heavy in the room a wall of industrial noise and fragmented semi-rhythmic music knocked me into oblivion. Silence itself is an instrument that binds it all together and these jarring contrasts between loud and quiet sent my mind throbbing. The entire thing was just so bleak.
I listened to it a second time to try and make sense of its fragmented and trance-inducing soundscape. I tried to keep track of each change and each new sound, and the more I listened the more I began to see patterns, few and far between. At times, like at the end of ‘Jesse’, it is just Walker’s voice echoing and vibrating in a void, singing ‘I’m the only one left alive.’ It’s the repetition of monotone vocals that connects. ‘Jolson and Jones’ stops and starts, instruments seem to melt and warp, weird ticking and ominous strings underlay Walker’s moans. It’s jazzy in that things work that shouldn’t; the entire thing dwells on the boundary of chord and discord: it’s purposely unsettling. A pained donkey brays as the song leads in to a plodding yet spiralling section with a brief, transient beat that is submerged shortly after by a void of sound that re-invades the space: a chasm of silence, ambience and isolated instruments flood. It is industrial in the truest sense of the word: metal pipes, slabs of concrete, pieces of wood, bins, and slabs of meat were all used to create a natural – or unnatural – soundscape that creates something just that slight bit off-kilter. In fact, the entire album has a feeling that everything is just about being held together; pushed even a millimetre to the left or right sanity might turn to insanity.
The lyrics are also just as impenetrable: fragments of thoughts drawling through my speakers, they didn’t sound like they were coming from Walker. I felt like I was listening to a recording of The Waste Land, voices seems to come from the outside. Walker is well read and has borrowed from external texts that are know for dwelling in the extremes of human emotion, none of it should work together in an album, but somehow it does.
The themes are unconventional and the lyrics vivid: ‘Jesse’ is about Elvis Presley’s stillborn twin brother Jesse Garon, 'Six feet of foetus flung at sparrows in the sky Put yourself in my shoes’; the execution of Benito Mussolini and his mistress Clara Petacci is the subject of ‘Clara’, ‘This is just a cornhusk doll dipped in blood in the moonlight'; other songs focus on dictatorship, totalitarianism, torture, disease, and a whole array of morbid and terrible subjects.'Jolson and Jones' is a weird one that I found out is about washed up Las-Vegas singers Al Jonson and Allan Jones; the lyrics 'I’ll punch a donkey in the streets of Galway’ are repeated in Walker's forceful drawl throughout the song. I found out that Allan Jones had a song called 'Donkey Serenade' in 1937 which sort of explains the odd lyrics. "

2017.12.01 16:03 XPMai Apple Music is very incompetent

Edit: I know this is hurtful for iSheeps. And I personally consider myself as one too (that's why I bothered to give it a try even though I've already settled down on Spotify), however, I'm overwhelmingly disappointed by Apple Music shortfalls. By writing this (impartial) review, I believe I'm in a unique position as I've sufficient knowledge of both Apple Music and Spotify. I've also confirmed with Apple customer service pertaining some issues I faced and verify certain facts, as well as seeking for workarounds (support, Internet, myself). It isn't biased since I'm an iSheep that prefers Spotify, so my views are balanced. :P I welcome all valid rebuttals against my points. They aren't for the sake of saying, but will also practically help me and people who encounter similar issues. Thank you!
As a strong supporter of Apple, I decided to give Apple Music a try. It is also favorable to me to adopt Apple Music as my streaming service of choice due to system's bias. It was very exciting initially despite interface glitches...
Pros:
And this is the real face:
  • Too Good at Goodbyes (by Alex Goot)
  • Galway Girl Mashup (by Michael Constantino)
  • Wolves (by Sofia Karlberg)
  • Call It What You Want (by Andie Case)
  • Malibu (by Fly by Midnight)
  • Friends (by Matt McAndrew)
Horrible right? If you aren't a POP listener and don't understand what happening, basically Apple Music recommendations are based on my most listened songs' REPLICA.
Let's say I like Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran. Apple Music (according to the above), it would recommend me Galway Girl Mashup by artistes from nowhere. It's the same song as the original Ed Sheeran's Galway Girl. Or Friends is just a replica of Friends POP by Justin Bieber.
PS: The cons is endless. They are mentioned because of their priority. I left out miscellaneous things like buggy welcome fav artiste selection, difficult to find friends, glitchy help find friends via xxx (e.g. Facebook/Instagram,etc., it doesn't seem to work properly), you cannot quickly toggle stream phone/PC. A workaround for this is Remote app, which allows you to play music on computer from phone remotely, but it isn't integrated into phone's Music all-in-one. And as such it increases complexity.
Edit 2: In response to those who are negative on the tone of this post, I've written one post clearing the misunderstanding of the purpose of this thread. The purpose of this thread isn't rant, but a wake-up call for the Apple Music community that AM isn't doing fine. It's underperforming as a decent music streaming service. https://www.reddit.com/spotify/comments/7h0mks/apple_music_superiority_is_just_a_faux_its_worse/dqp6ql2/ Thank you.

Drake - Blem
I never really understood why rappers need autotune. This is another one off Drake's new album playlist - and apparently the brainchild of yet another of Drake's multitude of failed relationships and a typo.
I might just say how I feel

Scandinavia's biggest export to the UK, apart from the Millenium Series (the girl who x'd the y's z), gritty TV dramas in the same vein, and IKEA, seems to be english pop music. Kygo ft. Selena Gomez
Kygo certainly has a signature style - despite only having heard Firestorm and Stole the Show from him, I still recognised the unique piano-based synth he uses in every song. That could be called success, if it weren't an indicator for me to immediately turn the radio to a different channel.
Also, what's with every pre-chorus in every song being made of untalented backing singers chanting the lyrics?

The Chainsmokers ft. Coldplay - Something Just Like This
This seems another entry in the growing trend of having the DJ/composer listed first, and the vocalist either as a featuring artist or not at all (see above). For example, who puts Coldplay second? What kind of nicotine-induced decision is this? As far as I can tell, all the Chainsmokers did was have some more thunking pads in the background. This has taken the genericness of the worst of Coldplay songs with the forgettableness of the worst any of The Chainsmokers songs to create something I'd rather dropped off the top ten so I wouldn't have to listen to it anymore.

Ed Sheeran - Castle on the Hill
With that, there goes any hope I had of this song somehow making a comeback to clinch No 1. It's been outdone at every step by Shape of You, rather than the opposite which really should have been the case. This is guaranteed to make it onto my top 10 songs of the year - and will probably take the top spot as well. It's upbeat, it's a power anthem to have blaring from the car speakers when you're zooming along down the highway, it's, for most intents and purposes, a better song than Shape of You. It certainly has more in it. But hitting No 2 for so many weeks in a row is still a good achievement, regardless of its brethren.

Clean Bandit has members that can play their own instruments. This is somehow impressive, since nobody else can do that. They certainly seem to be unique in that one of them has a cello.
I do not hear cello in this song.
Yes, unfortunately, Clean Bandit have decided to lean in favour of the electro part of electro-classical. At most, the violin shadows the vocal line. I'd much rather they go back to the days of Rather Be, when you could actually hear their talent for their instruments.

Drake - Passionfruit
showerthoughts - Has Drake even had a passionfruit, or does he just like the name?
This is the most pop-like of the songs from Drake's new album playlist, in that it actually has a pad in addition to the monotonous drumkit/bass/vocal of the rest of the album playlist. As I said last week - this does not give me much hope for the rest of it.
And with that, Drake has claimed the one remaining type of relationship failure that had been left un-rapped about - long-distance corrosion. I wonder where he'll go next.

It tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers from across the sea - one from England, one from Ireland. However, the family of the Irish girl disapproved, and prohibited her from performing in their band.

2016.02.23 19:10 jenga1012 [Artist Request] rock road to dublin

Hey I have an Idea for a comic. It will be based of an Irish song written in the 19th century so the comic will be long as I want it to be detailed. The song is called Rocky road to Dublin Here are the lyrics.I think the comic should be made in a format simlar to something like this The song tells the tale of a ireland leaving his home to travel to england to harvest corn,But needs to travel to Dublin to get a boat across.Arrived in dublin but his stuff was stolen.Jumped on a ship when the ship was sailing away, captain made him stay with the pigs.Landed in liverpool called him a fool, insulted ireland ,starts fight them a group of irish boys join in.Also heres a wiki page about it if you need it
so for the first part "In the merry month of June from me home I started, Left the girls of Tuam so sad and broken hearted, Saluted father dear, kissed me darling mother, " It should show Ireland leaving his home town of 'Tuam' and his family looking sad as he departs ,also he should have a Shillelagh) slung over his back carrying a pag.
The next part is "Drank a pint of beer, me grief and tears to smother, Then off to reap the corn, leave where I was born,
This panel(s) should show Him sadly drinking a pint in a pub , then showing him harvesting corn.
The line "I cut a stout blackthorn to banish ghost and goblin" refers to later on in the song where he flights the boys from liverpool. So the panel should show Ireland with a Shillelagh raised about to attack something but don't show what it is.
The lines "A brand-new pair of brogues to rattle over the bogs And frighten all the dogs, on the rocky road to Dublin"mean He’s wearing a spiffy new pair of shoes that will literally announce his presence."Just telling you the meaning of the line,This panel should show ireland walking along a country lane towards Dublin looking happy, remember he should have a shillelagh slung over his shoulder with a bag on it.
The [Chorus] One, two, three, four five, hunt the hare and turn her Down the rocky road, and all the ways to Dublin Whack-fol-lol-de-rah!. Don't know of a good way this can be shown so just have the text on a blank panel for the chorus.
"In Mullingar that night I rested, limbs so weary Started by daylight next mornin’, blithe and airy Took a drop of the pure to keep my heart from sinkin’ That’s the paddy’s cure, whene’er he’s on for drinking To see the lasses smile, laughing all the while At my curious style—‘twould set your heart a-bubblin’ They ax’d me was I hired, the wages I required Till I was almost tired of the rocky road to Dublin"
So this line means he rests in mullingar presumably at a pub, then next day he gets up and has a drink to keep him going and thinking about girls laughing. He is asked if he is hired but he declines the job.So just show him resting in a pub then next day having a drink of beer. while dreaming about a girl.and someone speaking to him but he is shaking his head in refusal. [Chorus] "One, two, three, four five, hunt the hare and turn her Down the rocky road, and all the ways to Dublin Whack-fol-lol-de-rah!" Just repeat what you did for the last chorus.
"In Dublin next arrived; I thought it such a pity To be so soon deprived a view of that fine city Then I took a stroll, all among the quality Bundle it was stole, in a neat locality Something crossed my mind, when I looked behind No bundle could I find upon my stick a wobblin’ Enquirin’ after the rogue, they said my Connacht brogue Wasn’t much in vogue, on the rocky road to Dublin" This means that he arrives in Dublin, but when he is walking along his Bundle (bag) is stolen of his shillelagh he askes about for the thief but the people laugh at his Irish accent. In Dublin at his time it was under heavy British influence so people from Dublin would have found his accent strange. For this panel(s) Ireland is walking along the Dublin streets , then he looks behind him and sees his bag is stolen then he asked about (show lines for speech) but his is laughed at (just show other irish).
[Chorus] "One, two, three, four five, hunt the hare and turn her Down the rocky road, and all the ways to Dublin Whack-fol-lol-de-rah!" Just repeat what you did for the last chorus.
"From there I got away, my spirits never failin’ Landed on the quay as the ship was sailin’ Captain at me roared, said that no room had he When I jumped aboard, a cabin found for Paddy Down among the pigs; I did some heary rigs Danced some hearty jigs—the water round me bubblin’ When off Holyhead, I wished myself was dead Or better far instead, on the rocky road to Dublin"
So this means he went to the quay, sees a ship departing jumps aboard it ,captain yells at him there is no room aboard so he is made to stay with the pigs bellow deck.So for these panels show him jumping aboard a ship (old large sailing boat)Then the captain (Make him British) yelling at him. After that show Ireland below the decks with the pigs and thinking of the road to Dublin.(Just show Dublin)
[Chorus] "One, two, three, four five, hunt the hare and turn her Down the rocky road, and all the ways to Dublin Whack-fol-lol-de-rah!" Just repeat what you did for the last chorus.
"The boys of Liverpool, when we safely landed Called myself a fool. I could no longer stand it Blood began to boil, temper I was losin’ Poor ould Erin’s isle they began abusin’ “Hurrah my soul!” says I, my shillelagh I let fly Some Galway boys were by and saw I was a hobblin’ With a loud hurray, they joined into the affray We quickly cleared the way, for the rocky road to Dublin" This tells part is about when he arrives in liverpool some local boys from liverpools start making fun of him because he is Irish,This make s Ireland mad so he starts a fight with them.A group of boys from galway see this and join in to help him. So the panels show a group of englandballs (englanders) making fun of him for being irish, and ireland getting mad. Then Him fighting then with his shillelagh stick.(could show ireland with his sillelagh stick raised to hit them)A Group of irishballs (Irish) see this then join in.
[Chorus] One, two, three, four five, hunt the hare and turn her Down the rocky road, and all the ways to Dublin Whack-fol-lol-de-rah! Just do waht you did for the last chorus.

Questions Answers
Have you got your groove on? Ramones, real or cartoon? Happy? sad? do you like Ceilidh? do you like Doo Wop? Ramones!!! Do you know who Elvis Ramone is? Elvis Ramone is/was Clem Burke who was a Ramone for a couple of gigs. Clem is a member of Blondie, Clem is a member of BP Fallon & The Bandits. Another great drummer! Sometimes live Scott Asheton from The Stooges joins us - two drummers, Clem AND Scott. Life's amazing.
What happened to The Wang Dang Doodle show? I use to tune in periodically, but it seems it's no longer running? Wang Dang Doodle! Temporarily in retirement. I love DJing, on the radio or live. I'm DJing w/ My Bloody Valentine this Sat Nov 9 in Philadelphia, then DJing two MBV shows in NY at the Hammerstein Ballroom Mon & Tues Nov 11th/12th. Love it.
Do you have a link where I can listen to Wang Dang Doogle?!!! Yes. Go to my humble blog Link to bpfallon.co - they're all there on iTunes for free.
Best Led Zeppelin groupie story? Untellable
Ask Me Anything except for the best stories about the band :) :)
Do tell... Hmmm. Nope. Love the band, love the music, we all had a great time. YOU tell me a secret?!
here folks is where we all walk away from the AMA, as he is not spilling the beans. 0/10. Ah! Man wants kiss-and-tell! Interesting what people are interested in!
He did say maybe Link to imgur.com. I did say maybe, yes. Fun & frolics w/o uptight bollocks, that's what I'm into. And if someone wants dirt... go elsewhere, please. Gosh, some folk are so SERIOUS.
Just tell us about the shark. True story or rock myth? Well, it was a red snapper... true story, consensual explorations...
Howya beep... What did Ronnie Drew actually think of Bob Dylan's version of 'The Auld Triangle'?.. Did he just spin it for shits n' giggles or did he actually like it? Ronnie Drew LOVED Dylan's 'The Auld Triangle', was very moved by it. It's a tremendous version. The track, it's from 'The Basement Tapes' sessions.
Any memorable interactions with Led Zeppelin? And just how great was John Bonham on the drums? John Bonham - I loved him. He wasn't always designed for all the hoopla. Drummer? Simply ultra. A big hug across the spaces to you, Bonzo. Much love x.
What was the most "What the fuck?" moment you had with Led Zeppelin that you can tell us about? In four words - Bonzo Flying The Plane.
Is that before he joined U2 ? Yes. And no. And know :)
How loopy were the decision-making processes at Apple? Did George Harrison have a larger part in it than he has been given credit for? Often pretty free-form. The input from The Beatles varied - George I think did a great job producing Jackie Lomax' album. Jackie's 'Sour Milk Sea' - written by George - had all The Fabs on it apart from John plus EC having a twang and was excellent.
Thanks for the response, it's really nice to be able to do this with you. How was your pre-reddit stage fright? This can be an tough room to work, at times. lol. It's fine, nice to talk to people in any way, actually.
If you're back in Tennessee, I'll buy lunch @ the Palm in Nashville (just down the hill from the Ryman). PM me, I'm good for it. Thanks for the AMA. Wow. Thank you. I believe I'll take you up on this (once I figure out how to PM you, I'm learning boogaloo (it keeps one going & on one's toes)
Cool song and video. What is your inspiration when writing lyrics and thinking up the videos? Thank you. Here's the 'Kill Me Till I Crawl' link again for everyone else Link to www.youtube.com Lyrics kinda pop out or slither down some sort of divining rod. This video is the brainchild of Eat The Danger who are two guys from Ireland who understand the darker humour of John Lennon, that there are shadows even when the sun's shining somewhere else. Reality is a fig leaf of the imagination.
Lyrics kinda come, they pop up or out. Been writing stuff in my notebooks for years, never know why; I do now. Actually, it's alchemy, song-writing. You go into a room w/ nothing and angels willing - and Aaron Lee Tasjan/Nigel Harrison/Clem Burke vibing - you come out of the room w/ something you can share w/ the world...
I love this song, but don't you think it's kinda twisted? Yes, it is kinda twisted. But in a good way - it all works out fine in the end Link to www.youtube.com
I believe you managed Johnny Thunders from the New York Dolls, what's it like to manage a junkie? Managing Johnny Thunders was an honour and a privilege - one of the greatest rock'n'rollers ever, a cross between Gene Vincent and Howling Wolf mixed in with The Shangr-Las. I love the man, bless him. What a guitarist/song-writestylist. Listen to Johnny's album 'So Alone' where he's joined by Phil Lynott, Steve Jones & Paul Cook of The Sex Pistols, Steve Marriott... me on harmonica on Marc Bolan's song 'The Wizard, bit of BP singing there too, nobody's perfect... Johnny and junk? Not the wand of wisdom waving, not good. Heroin kills.
You could have been a great politician. One can be honest w/o sticking knives in people. Honestly :) And life is to be loved and friends - indeed, people in general - are to be treasured. No?
BP, here you are on stage rockin' a bass, and sportin' a black cowboy hat with John Lennon. How did this come about? Do you still keep in contact with any members of The Beatles? Link to www.youtube.com. Wheeew! How'd it come about? John Lennon asked me. "Are you gettin' up?" he said and I did. I see Paul McCartney now & zen - like at Zeppelin's 'Celebration Day' movie premier and at weddings.
Is it true that when you worked at Apple Records one of your jobs was to test Paul McCartney's grass? True. Great gig to have, ridiculous really. Apple for me was magic, not just Johnpaulgeorgeandringo but in particular as well as The Fabs, Derek Taylor who unwittingly was a guru to me - and to John and George, wittingly. Derek, he was The Beatles' Press Officer. Magical gentleman. Thank you, Derek, as time goes by and comes back again.
Someone told me that Ian MacLagan from The Faces played keys on your new record? Is that true material? Yes, Ian McLagan - Mac as he's known - plays on our album. LP/CD/digital download buy here (plug): Link to www.cdbaby.com He's a brilliant man, we've been friends for ages. He says "I know BP from before he had a hat". If I was to get all analytical, I'd think how wild it is having the keyboard player from the Stones' Miss You' on our album. Or that amazing organ on the Small Faces' 'Tin Soldier'... Will the circle be unbroken? Yes.
Were there any particularly noteworthy groups that caused problems, raised a particularly creative complaint, or anything along those lines? (I'm totally with you that its all bollocks or possibly the band trolling, just curious in general) Not really. Oh yes, I'd forgotten about these guys (as one does), Emerson, Lake & Palmer. I worked w/ them briefly, they were pompous and not my cup of tea at all. I'm not here to be unkind - but goodness, they were shite.
Do you have any favorite young, emerging bands of 2013? The Strypes - love them, they're real and ultra vibey. The Hot Sprockets I've played with, them backing me Link to www.youtube.com - and The Ghost Wolves are a powerful duo who I've also had the pleasure of singing with Link to www.youtube.com Three very cool combos!
Why are you championing The Strypes? Aren't they just doing what lots of groups like The Yardbirds and The Animals were doing YEARS ago, rhythm n blues songs by Willie Dixon, Bo Diddley etc? Yes, in their own way. But no-one's heard this music since 50 years ago and it's fresh and rocking. The Strypes are a really really good band.
Was Johnny a handful in the junkie daze? Johnny was a sweetheart. A handful? Yes, sometimes - aren't we all, sometimes?
New York, 1973. - Who stole the $200K? Good question. I really truly don't know. Weird scenes inside the goldmine.
Fuckin Jim... Uh?
You quoted Jim Morrison. I just mentioned his name in jest. Ah yeah. "Weird scenes..." I thought it was something to do w/ Jimmy Page and didn't understand the drift. Got it now, thank you!
Hey beep. Have you ever been approached about and or would you be interested in someone producing a documentary about your life and experiences? Remain well. I'm open to that, in theory anyway. Maybe to tie-in with 'the book'... People do keep asking me to write a book - we'll see.
I'd read it, certainly! It would be an inside history of rock'n'roll from working with the Beatles and Led Zeppelin to Johnny Thunders and T.Rex up to the Bandits now. Sounds like you've had a charmed life my friend. I have and am having a blessed life. Can't believe I'm the singer in a band, it was never planned. Two things - trust in the angels and row like fuck. Instant karma's gonna get you.
Have you ever met Bob Dylan? If so elaborate on the experience! Thank you! Link to www.bpfallon.com - The Tale Of Bob Dylan, Johnny Thunders, Sid Vicious & Van (Morrison). Truth is stranger than friction.
What's it like touring now with My Bloody Valentine? How do you like working with Kevin Shields? Kevin Shields is a one-off, tremendous guy. MBV, there is no other band like them, all this power & glory that transmogrifies itself into psychedelia. Nov 9th Philadelphia, Nov 11th & 12th Hammerstein Ballroom NYC!
You've been to some gigs over the years - care to pick out a favourite one? Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan & The Band, Led Zeppelin every night, T.Rex every night, Muddy Waters, Ziggy and The Stooges and The Dolls, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine, Public Enemy, Mavis Staples, Stones... many many many... I'm very lucky.
Not a fan of the grateful dead? I love the Dead's version of 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' - beautiful guitaring by Mr Garcia, his vocals feeling the song. And I'm not against a few hours of 'Dark Star' when the occasion merits it. Saw The Dead several times, Bickershaw Festival/Hollywood Festival/London in England, Madison Sq Gardens in NY. Always a wonderful journey.
If one bangs a gong, does one HAVE to get it on? If one bangs a gong, one IS getting it on x.
When working at Apple Records, did you ever interact with Chris O'Dell? I love her autobiography and she worked there too. Yes. Very nice person. Haven't read her book, I'd imagine it's a hoot.
Yes! Very entertaining, to say the least! :) Oh good. Look forward to reading it. Thanks for reminding me about it. Ah, 'Pisces Apple Lady'.
I am fond of the work you have done with amazing models such as Cara Delevingne & Kate Moss. What do you think about the character of those women, and how did you come to work with them? How well do they keep it together behind closed doors? They're simply friends, two amazing people. Great energies. Cara sung backing vocals live w/ BPF & The Bandits. She's beyond effervescent.
Do you see Bono often? and is he an ego-tripper? Ah, Bono! I saw him on Thursday. I believe he's a very sincere man.
How did you come to meet Alison Mosshart of the kills? I met Alison Mosshart at Death Disco in London many full moons ago when I was DJing there w/ Courtney Love. The Kills are a great band, Alison and Jamie have great energies. I've DJed a bunch of Kills shows, it's always a gas.
Is it true there are secret tracks in Jimmy Page's vault of you singing with Led Zeppelin backing you? Which songs are you talking about? :)
Can you elaborate on the whole grass tester for paul mccartney thing? It sounds like a pretty cool job. Was that for quality control or did people sell paul poisoned weed or something? Why did he need a grass tester? Lord, I never thought of the 'poisoned weed' scenario till now!!! Gosh. No, this was quality control of the highest order (literally).
I read Richard Cole's 'uncensored' Zeppelin biography, which was basically called a sack of lies by Robert and Jimmy. Have you read it? And if so, would you say that it's more truth or BS? Oh, and did he steal the $200k? ;) Haven't read it, skimmed through it to read the bits about me. One man's truth is another mans bs and all of us, we sometimes change our minds as we boogie on. The $200k? I don't believe so
I'd be willing to bet it was a stunt by Peter Grant... How else would Led Zeppelin tell the media how much it costs for them to perform a show?! I don't believe it was. Peter was a very good actor but not THAT good.
I love your 45 'I Believe In Elvis Presley' that you made with Jack White. How did you work that out? Link to www.youtube.com. Mr White came up to me in a club in NY and asked me would I like to go down to Nashville and make a record. First person ever to ask me to do that. So I did. Changed my life, literally. BPF & The Bandits came out of that. JW also asked me to be in the videos for the Dead Weather song 'She Cuts Like A Buffalo' and that was fun. A very very talented man.
I love this picture! This picture is definitely worth 1000 words. How many words can you throw at it Beep? Um... my girlfriend then Patsy & I watching Bob Dylan from the side of the stage, Slane 1984. Both Mick Taylor and Ian MClagan were in Dylan's band and they were why Patsy & I had such a great view. Ian McLagan plays Hammond organ on this BPF & The Bandits track 'Kill Me Till I Crawl' (the celebration of which is why I'm typing away here, brothers & sisters). "Sometimes it is what it is/ And sometimes it is what you make it..." the songs says - dig: Link to www.youtube.com
This is not a question. I'd like to say that your song "Increasingly Often" along with Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Increasingly Often - Link to www.youtube.com. Forever Young - Link to www.youtube.com. Wow. Thank you. "Bless us who are still alive And bless us who are still in heaven It's not that I'm a Holy Joe I'm simply very grateful you are here"
and Robert? I always thought Robert was bisexual (like that picture of you with your head on his shoulder) Nope, no boy-on-boy action there. Apart from anything - and sometimes anything is everything - there wouldn't have been TIME. As you can gather, there was other stuff going on...
I think it was pretty obvious that they had something going on.
Are there any sexual stories between Jimmy and Robert? I always thought Robert was bisexual (like that picture of you with your head on his shoulder) No way! Robert's straighter than a kangaroo's erection! I must say he looked good in a dress - see 'Physical Graffiti' cover - but that's about the size of it (pun intended).
I've heard you once kidnapped yourself. What was that all about? Not sure :)
No idea :)
Can you explain what is going on here? Was this Cara's idea or yours? Link to www.youtube.com. This circus band came vibing down the street in Austin and one just had to have a choogle with them. My friend Weston McGowan filmed this, everyone seemed to have a camera or phone a-filming. Instant idea, no thought. Mad music = dance.
What's the most embarrassing album in your personal collection? May I answer the question in reverse, please? I've got three copies of 'Leave Home' by the Ramones, three LPs all the same. Just in case. y'know? Yknow. Vinyl - simply sounds REAL. Plug Alert - our BP Fallon & The Bandits album 'Still Legal' sounds AMAZING on 180gm heavy vinyl, these LPs pressed by United Record Pressing in Nashville - try/buy here: Link to www.cdbaby.com
Did heavy drugs improve Led Zeppelin or did it destroy them? their playing ect? I don't wish to appear censorious - but 'heavy drugs' rarely added. I'm not a DV - drug virgin - so I can say this. I mean, short term a lot of that boogaloo was a laugh. But...
What was the first record you ever bought? Also, have you ever been contacted by Marc Bolan's ghost? First record bought - 'A Million $ Of Twang' by Duane Eddy. Marc's ghost? No need, he's here anyway.
I know you've spent some time in Austin, TX recording your album. Are there any local bands from Austin that you are fond of or have high hopes for? The Ghost Wolves - Jonny (drums) & Carley (guitar), they're powerful. Love Joe King Carrasco, a dear friend. I've had the pleasure of singing w/ both The Ghost Wolves and Joe. And with Ray Wylie Hubbard, who's another high highway gentleman. I love that fellow Willie Nelson, too.
Was there every any "turbulence" on The Zeppelin Starship? Sometimes things went up and down in the bedroom. A proper bed w/ en suite shower, next door to the hippy room with cushions on the floor and a fake fireplace...
Evening Beep. I remember listening to your BP Fallon Orchestra programme many moons ago. You had some great guests - do you think it might get revived or repeated at some stage? There are actually bootlegs of some of the shows. And here's the anarchic Pogues one: Link to www.bpfallon.com
In your song 'Cold Chils', I like the line "What's the point if you don't have a joint versus what's the fun if you don't have a gun" - but what does it mean exactly? The difference between them and us :)
How long did it take them to animate your video? Looks great! Not that long, really. I'm a big fan of Eat The Danger, they're tremendous, really hip'n'happening.
Link to www.youtube.com. Yes. Marc Bolan & T.Rex = timeless
Are you a vinyl man? I like the wax of life.
I know what I'll be doing for the rest of the day. If it's a Wang Dang Doodle day - have a great one! And if it isn't - have a great one too (one two)
Awesome! I guess you figured out the answer is yes :) Link to www.bpfallon.com
Not so much a question but just wanted to say hello! I met you in Galway years ago at Death Disco and you were super cool and friendly! Thank you sir. Running the Death Disco parties w/ Alan McGee was a gas. Our guest DJs included Shane MacGowan and Kate Moss and one of the greatest people ever, Ronnie Drew.
Sir = Madam :) Yep i remember that night Alan was sick and Shane's flight was delayed so it was you, Jamie and i think Des. Great night and you guys played some amazing stuff. RIP Ronnie. People ask me who's the most amazing person you've ever met. Well, it's not a competition or a race but Ronnie Drew and his wife Deirdre - magnificent
When i moved to Dublin he was the first 'famous' person i met, a true gent and the world lost a good one when he died. Ronnie Drew was The Greatest Living Irishman. He still is.
Great Animation! Eat The Danger did the animation - they have a great punk rock attitude, it's rockin' but with a smile.
Yes. And no. And know :) Actually, TheLighterDr - yours is among the best questions...
I have and am having a blessed life. Can't believe I'm the singer in a band, it was never planned. Two things - trust in the angels and row like fuck. Instant karma's gonna get you. "row like fuck" above - 'row' rhymes w/ 'know'. Just say know
Ultimate Fan Porn there... Terrifying!
Link to imgur.com. Intense!
Nice song, like the old school distortion @ 1:40. (child of the 70's here) Ah, the incredible take-no-prisoners guitar solo by Aaron Lee Tasjan. It's one of my fave parts of the video - wild as an electric cow! Link to www.youtube.com
I'm curious about how you and our rock and roll heroes that you know all feel about aging. To be 70 and still on stage must have seemed unthinkable when you guys were younger. Actually, age is subjective, it's a state of mind. The blues guys, the country guys, they played till they conked out. Rock'n'roll's the same vibe now, if it's real. Yes, to be like you say 70 on stage, it's a wild concept - but it's beautiful. I just got a flash of John Lee Hooker sitting there, bashing the chords out, stomping his foot, telling of how she mistreated him. Timeless and for ever.
Link to www.esquire.com. Vs. Link to www.studded-hearts.com. Both of these ladies are pretty damn sexy if you ask me. Both :)
I don't really think those 2 models are of the same caliber... Kate Moss & Cara Delevingne - they're BOTH great, true vibers, true rock'n'roll hearts.
I can only imagine, Kevin Shields is a genius! More importantly, he's an incredibly nice man, a genuine geezer. AND talented, VERY.
I've watched this video so many times, and I knew that they were miming, but I've never noticed until now that there are TWO people playing bass. Hilarious. Yes. Klaus Voorman playing the real bass. Incredible guy, I knew him from when he was in Manfred Mann, he goes back to Hamburg days w/ John Lennon, then it was Klaus & Astrid, they were the hip visual shakers who influenced these greasy Liverpudlians. Alan White the drummer I knew from when he was playing w/ Terry Reid.
Wow. Thank you. "Bless us who are still alive And bless us who are still in heaven It's not that I'm a Holy Joe I'm simply very grateful you are here" I'm not sure it's true but nonetheless I'm very moved by your comment.
BP! You're the man, I've been looking up to you for awhile now. I was ecstatic when I saw this (and I don't even use reddit!). Hope you are well my friend. Very well, thank you! Simply enjoying this adventure called life - trust you are too. Music is the massage. BPF & The Bandits 'Kill Me Till I Crawl' animated video again Link to www.youtube.com

2013.08.18 09:03 caucasianmexican [TOMT]Song, and Irish Ballad that may or may not have been outlawed and was something about a grave?

Two years ago I was in a bar in Galway where a very drunk old man stood up, the bar got silent, and he sang me a song. I'm pretty sure he said that the song was banished for a long time due to it's semi political nature. I think it had the lyrics...something about a coffin box, god I wish I could remember. I know as soon as I got home I wrote about it in a diary that was stolen shortly after, and I know that there's a version of it on youtube that has a group of old irish men singing it. This is really, really important to me and I'd be really really thankful to anyone who can help me out.
edit: Something about a widow? And crying? This is all just flashes here. UGH this is frustrating.
